Knithaus!

Behind the Scenes Dreams Giving Back Kids Fashion Knithaus Little Knit Dress Pretty Things Smockingbird

Dear Smockingbird Family,

This has been in the works for SO LONG that I can't even believe it is finally a reality.  Say hello to our newest collection: Knithaus.

I wanted a way to continue to mix in comfy knit dresses with our boutique line without the two competing. For a while I felt pulled between two great directions.  I love the rainbow of yummy knits, but my creative self thrives on fabric combinations and design.  And of course the girls reach for soft knit dresses as much as they enjoy dressing up.

Should I order mint chocolate chip or dark chocolate?  Duh, get two scoops!  There is room in the closet for both fashion and comfort.  And thus Knithaus was born, a special line of Little Knit Dresses to complement our more fashion-forward boutique Collection.  Along the way Knithaus has evolved into its own element with a distinct personality, a wheelhouse of features that make my creative heart happy, and its own special mission.

Y'all have come to know and love our Little Knit Dress, and we have expanded on that magic.

Knithaus will offer periodic releases of knit dresses in gorgeous knit fabrics and seasonally appropriate styles.   Think short sleeves for summer, long sleeves for winter.  Maybe even a maxi dress for holiday!  These will all be ready to ship and available in sizes 2-10 for now.  (If your girlie needs a smaller or larger size, just let me know.)   We have increased inventory and the number of colorways.   Hopefully there will be a few dresses available beyond release night so that you can add to your collection over time.

This part really excites me.  Knithaus also will offer the option of creating your own custom dress!  I designed our Little Knit Dress pattern with entirely interchangeable components so that you can mix and match them and still know how the bodice will fit and how long the dress will be.  Beyond that, the designing is up to you!

Knithaus customs are available in sizes 9M-14.  Choose your fabric -- we will have a variety of knits available, including some of the same ones available in our RTS line.  Pick a bodice -- our popular scoopneck or our new summery racerback.   Choose your sleeves -- racerback (sleeveless), short, three-quarter, or long.  Select one of two full, twirly skirts -- our refined circle skirt or our playful gathered skirt.  Keep an eye out for additional options later this summer!

Want the lemon dress in a racerback?  We can make that happen.  Do you live up north and prefer long sleeves sooner than others?  Get them!  Design a custom dress that is perfect for you.

But what excites me most about this new adventure is that Knithaus represents more than creating beautiful dresses.  We want to create beautiful ripples into our community.  A portion of the sales of every Knithaus dress released will be donated to a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity.  The charities selected to benefit will vary, and we are always open to suggestions.  Together we will plant many seeds of hope for the future and knit something beautiful for our world.

We are thrilled to present the first Knithaus Ready-to-Ship release, each offered with short sleeves and a twirly gathered skirt.

Green Tea

This rich green floral pops with colorful floral notes.  This was a surprise favorite for me!  If you've ever been to Palm Spring you will recognize the bougainvillea inspiration.  A portion of the sales of Green Tea will be donated to The Fresh Air Fund, a not-for-profit organization which was created to allow children living in low-income communities to enjoy free summer experiences in the country. The Fresh Air Fund's tradition of caring provides children with a much-needed respite from the city streets. Thousands of youngsters enjoy summer experiences with volunteer hosts or attend one of five Fresh Air Fund camps in upstate New York.

Mint Julep

This dress is ice blue, a regal pale blue with a hint of mint in it.  It is refreshing and sort of begs for Breakfast at Tiffany's styling.  A portion of the sales of Mint Julep will be donated to The National Cervical Cancer Coalition, Big Bend Chapter.  The NCCC was founded as a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to serving women with, or at risk for, cervical cancer and HPV. and to educate and raise awareness on sexual health issues.

Limoncello

I have been saving this fabric for months!  The most beautiful lemon design with turquoise notes winds its way across Limoncello.  It is ready for summer and seriously cute.   A portion of the sales of Limoncello will be donated to Pets for Vets, a non-profit whose goal is to help heal the emotional wounds of military veterans by pairing them with a shelter dog that is specially selected to match his or her personality. Professional animal trainers rehabilitate the dogs and teach them good manners to fit into the veteran’s lifestyle.

Pink Lemonade

This dress is sewn from the softest pink.   Somewhere between ballerina pink and blush, it is ultra-girly and a must for all pink lovers.  A portion of the sales of Pink Lemonade will be donated to Black Girls Rock!  This non-profit youth empowerment and mentoring organization was established to promote the arts for young women of color, as well as to encourage dialogue and analysis of the ways women of color are portrayed in the media. Black Girls Rock! is dedicated to the healthy development of young women and girls.  It seeks to build the self-esteem and self-worth of young women of color by changing their outlook on life, broadening their horizons, and helping them to empower themselves through mentorship, arts education, cultural exploration and public service.

Set your alarm, Knithaus launches Wednesday May 31, 2017 at 8 PM EST.

XOXO
